Carbon Monoxide Monitoring and

Nitrogen Dioxide Monitoring for Indoor Parking Lots, Vehicle Maintenance areas,

and Loading Docks with Gasoline or Diesel Fueled Vehicles

A. Installation

Provide carbon monoxide monitors and nitrogen dioxide monitors for complete coverage of all enclosed parking areas.

1.   Quantity of sensors recommended by manufacturer

2.   50 feet / 15 meters maximum radius from each sensor to edge of coverage area or wall.

3.   sensors mounted away from air vents, heaters and overhead doors

4.   for automobile parking lots with less than ten feet of ceiling height, mount monitors 4 - 6 feet / 1 - 2 meters above floor.  For maintenance areas, loading docks where ceiling height is greater than 10 feet mount the carbon monoxide monitors at 4 - 6 feet / 1 - 2 meters off floor and the nitrogen dioxide monitors at 50% of the ceiling height, not less than the height of expected diesel fueled vehicles.

5.   Provide independent 120 volts AC circuit with identification at the electrical panel “Gas Monitoring System”.

6.   Supply 120 Vac to 24 Vac closed transformer(s) to supply all sensors.  Allow 5 VA rating per unit.

7.   Sensor wiring to conform with all local building codes.  Install sensor wiring in EMT conduit.

B. Sensor Requirements;

1.   Carbon monoxide, Electro-chemical type sensors measuring 0 to 250 ppm CO +- 3%. Temperature operating range -4F / -20C to 104F / 40C. Minimum expected sensor life span of 3 years

2.   Nitrogen Dioxide, Electro-chemical type sensors measuring 0-10 ppm NO2 +-3%.  Operating temperature range -4 F/ -20C to 104F / 40C.  Minimum expected sensor life span of 2 years.

3.   Numeric display showing gas concentration on sensors.

4.   Field calibration controls from front panel without the use of external meters, interface hardware or proprietary software.

5.   Sensor replacement via pre-calibrated plug-in modules

6.   Factory supplied certificate of calibration or site calibration by authorized party

7.   Sensors capable of communicating with control panel via fully addressable network using twisted pair chain wiring.

8.   LED indicators for three adjustable alarm levels

9.   Adjustable delay-on and delay-off timers for each of the three pre-sets

10. LED strobe flasher high gas alarm on sensors

11. 85 db audible alarm high alarm for local indication at sensors

12. Splash proof, impact resistant, flame retardant enclosure to UL94-V0 and UL94-5Va.

13. Alarm relays, 5 Amp 120 vac rating.  Provide quantity of relays to accommodate number exhaust fans or zone groupings, and fault status.  Minimum 2 per system.

14. Furnish manual override controls to activate ventilation components on low speed for a period of 0-60 minutes

15. Products to be CSA or UL listed

C. BACnet integration

1.   Provide BACnet MS/TP interface capabilities directly to all sensors or via master control unit

2.   Provide capability to read gas concentration of all sensors and status of alarms at the zone, or group, level.

3.   Products to be BTL listed (BACnet Testing Laboratories) for direct connection to BACnet network

D. Variable-speed drive Capabilities

  1. For each sensor grouping or zone, provide relay contacts based on gas concentration at 2 adjustable settings for integration with variable-speed drive control system to enable (or initiate) the drive control sequence.
  2. Supply one analogue 4-20 ma (or 2-10v) output per sensor grouping, or zone based on the highest current gas concentration of the sensors in the group for integration with the variable speed drive controller.  Provide ability to scale the analogue output to a specified (min/max) range of gas readings for the highest reading sensor of the group.
